Biobased and Bullet Proof

Craftmanship meets Nature meets Technology.
Over the course of evolution, in all kinds of hostile environments, Nature developed protective structures. Bite and pressure resistant scales of fish and shells. Cellular auxetic structures*, with a negative Poisson’s ratio, like cork. Hard and soft wood able to cope with stress and strain.
At Arbor Armour® we study biomimetics for applying nature’s materials. We work together with manufacturers of biobased materials, of bullet proof glass and world class hinges. Specialists in the field of bonding techniques used in the aircraft industry have helped Arbor Armour® to develop her own joints, Arbor Armour PanzerJoint®.
Close industrial cooperation, enjoying each others knowledge, gut feeling and a lot of trial and error have engineered nature’s materials into bullet proof products.
*Auxetic structures are materials or structures that exhibit a negative Poisson’s ratio. This means that when stretched, they expand in all directions perpendicular to the applied force, and when compressed, they contract in all directions. This unusual behavior leads to enhanced mechanical properties like increased shear stiffness, indentation resistance and energy absorption.
